Position Title: Cognos Developer

Desired Skills:

• Conceptualize, design and implement a Cognos solution from existing data warehouse, and other enterprise data sources.
• Design and develop complex Impromptu reports and queries
• Design and develop complex Analysis Studio cubes, Report Studio reports and Query Studio queries
• Design and develop complex Framework Manager models
• Conduct user interviews to gather business requirements.
• Play a key role developing project artifacts; business requirements document, detailed design document, and report specifications
• Assist in complex sizing, resource estimates, scope and requirements for a variety of projects.
• Develop and execute test cases to carry out various levels of testing. (Unit, SIT, UAT)
• Assist in developing project plans for the Cognos related tasks of a project
• Assist in designing logical and physical dimensional data mart models
• Provide end-user support for Cognos related requirements and issues
• Install and configure the Cognos suite of products.
• Performance tune Analysis Studio cubes, Report Studio reports and Query Studio queries
• Define and implement administration and housekeeping functions such as automation, backup and recovery, security, deployment, user audit & usage, and license tracking processes.

• 5+ years experience as a Cognos developer/designer
• 5+ years of experience in complex Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence development environments
• Experience with complex Cognos implementations
• Strong proficiency with Analysis Studio, Report Studio, Query Studio, Event Studio , and Cognos Connection
• Proficient with Cognos Framework Manager, Transformer and Metric Designer (installation, configuration and development)
• Strong knowledge of general warehousing concepts and theory
• Knowledge of Ralph Kimball and Bill Inmon design theories
• Knowledge of dimensional data modeling techniques and theories
• Ability to understand and read data models
• Experience using ERWin or another data modeling tool an asset
• Knowledge of RDBMS concepts and technologies
• Strong experience writing SQL and PL/SQL
• Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision
• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, presentation and communication skills
• The ability to communicate complex information and issues to all levels of the organization
