U.S. Independent Controls is the U.S. arm of the global Capital Markets Reconciliations Department focusing primarily on broker-dealer business located in the United States. The main responsibility of this department is to oversee and ensure that key operational tasks, as performed by the various Operations Departments, are done properly and timely. A key objective is to ensure that the back office operating systems are in balance for both cash and stock positions daily, likewise validate the accuracy of stock record positions for both firm and customer accounts.

General Summary for this support role.
• Ensure timely and accurate performance of various independent control functions for BMO Capital Markets Corp. while supporting the following (back office) departments:
o Equity Operations
o Equity Finance Operations
o Fixed Income Operations
o Derivatives Operations
• Perform various analytical functions

Main Role and Responsibilities:

• Perform quarterly securities count in compliance with SEC Rule 17a-13, which includes:
o sending out and tracking audit confirmations to various counter-parties for stock borrow and loan business
o research and verify information on various audit confirmations received from counter-parties; assist in resolving any discrepancies
o updating and maintaining counter-party contact information

Other Roles and Responsibilities (Please Note - the main focus of this role is on reconciliations and control):

• Perform daily reconciliations, identify exceptions and ensure timely resolutions for the following:
o Firm cash balancing
o Stock record position balancing
o CNS cash and position reconciliation
o DTC position reconciliation
o Inter-company Accounts Reconciliation and Verification

• Perform daily verification of money/position balances of the following accounts:
o Fail to receive/deliver
o Stock borrow and loan
o Dividends and Reorg
o Depository
o Foreign Exchange
o Suspense
o Write-offs
o Transfer
o Physical Box

• Monitor daily Under Seg Report
• Produce Daily Aged Breaks Report
• Maintain US Independent Controls (IC) daily work files and manage record- keeping
• Support other US IC team members in day-to-day functions

Required Experience and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or similar
• 3 + years operations experience with comprehensive understanding of securities trade processing from execution through settlement
• Extensive reconciliation skills
• Knowledge of ADP/Broadridge, DTC, GlobalOne, LOANET and GMI systems a plus
• Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Word and Excel(macros, pivot tables, Vlookup would be a bonus)

Hours of work are 8:30-5:00 Monday to Friday. This is a small group of 3 in NJ with another small team of 3 that sits in Chicago. There is interaction between teams as well as with the operations teams that they support.
