Position Title: Senior Product Development Engineer/Technologist
Salary Range: $100,000.00

Description: Primary Function
• Serve as the chief Plant technical & design resource for the low-voltage Switchboard, Panelboard, and Automatic Transfer Switch product lines (primarily the former)
• Providing technical advice, guidance, and/or training to local Engineering and Operations personnel, and serving as sole liaison between the Plant & CDN Central Engineering Department (CED) for all matters pertaining to the aforementioned products.
• Candidate will utilize Autodesk Inventor to customize existing CED designs (approved/tested/released) to satisfy live customer order requirements, and create new CSA-compliant design variants to address gaps in the current LVDA product offering in collaboration with Marketing/Sales.
• Lead industrialization (prototyping, validation, testing) of the latter, in conjunction with Mfg. Engineering team, ensuring seamless product launch/transition through effective application of Lean/Six Sigma & other tools (detailed below).
• Create & maintain standard drawings/modules, issuing & implementing ECN’s and Product Directives as required.

Essential Functions/Position Requirements
• Customize existing CED designs (approved/tested/released) to suit specific applications/live customer order requirements, creating CSA-compliant design variants (SWBD, PNBD, ATS) to address gaps in current LVDA product offering, in collaboration with Marketing/Sales
• Any products not covered under existing CSA type-testing remain the jurisdiction of CED
• Serve as chief LVDA technical resource for SWBD, PNBD, and ATS product lines, providing technical advice, guidance, and/or training to local Engineering and Operations personnel, and serving as sole liaison between LVDA & CED for all matters pertaining to the aforementioned products
• Primary areas of focus: Switchboard/Switchgear & ATS
• Create & maintain Product Option Matrices to provide real-time visual depiction of available configurations & product line gaps
• Lead industrialization of new products/variants (prototyping, validation, testing), ensuring safe, high quality, cost-effective manufacture through application of VA/VE & pFMEA tools, and design-for-manufacture (DfM) principles
• Identify, approve, and implement product improvements to reduce cost & improve quality for assigned product lines
• Create & maintain standard drawings/modules, issuing & implementing ECN’s, Deviations, and Product Directives as required
• Accountable for ensuring site adherence to applicable CSA/UL standards, and CED standards/directives; Facilitate CSA/UL compliance audits, serving as a liaison between LVDA and CED for regulatory/compliance matters
• Compile cost analyses, as required, for assigned product lines based on extension of hourly rates, burden and material costs, cost of new machine tools and handling of equipment. This includes specifications for such items as tooling, equipment, mfg. methods (tolerances & special characteristics), and material
• Provide input/support to PPAP process for new components/vendors, as required
• Take necessary measures to improve the quality of product and information in the respective areas of responsibility

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics preferred), or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Technology
• Licensed P.Eng or CET, strongly preferred
• Minimum of 5 years prior technical experience with LV Power Distribution Products (Switchboards/Switchgear strongly preferred), with a minimum of 3 years in a Manufacturing or Design Engineering capacity
• Highly proficient user of Autodesk Inventor 2013 or equivalent 3D Modelling software; Demonstrated proficiency with PC and related software, including MS Office Suite
• Training and Experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools- LSS Green or Black belt would be considered an asset
• Strong technical acumen, paired with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including a keen understanding of common sheet-metal forming/fabrication techniques
• In depth understanding and experience using and interpreting the Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable CSA & UL Standards
• Candidate must be familiar with common testing requirements for LV Power Distribution Equipment (short circuit, thermal, seismic, etc), and have proven ability to design-for-manufacturing in an Engineered-to-Order environment
• Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
• Proven ability to lead projects/teams and consistently achieve results through self & others
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical skills & methodical, objective, approach to problem solving
