Position Title: Sr Environment Health and Safety Specialist

Description: Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for the Health, Safety and Environmental programs including company wide required training and direction in safe handling and use of company product, materials and equipment.

• Assumes full Health and Safety responsibility and representation in absence of Department Manager.
• Coordinate the Health, Safety, and Environmental programs to ensure employee safety and satisfaction, as well as compliance with legal and other requirements.
• Ensure the Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with ISO14001. Report performance of the EMS to senior management.
• Responsible for compliance with IATF16949 and ISO14001 documented systems and authority to initiate appropriate action to prevent nonconformity.
• Implement Health & Safety program to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
• Establish documented policies, procedure and safety work instructions. Review annually and update as required.
• Accountable for successful conformance on all audits and inspections.
• Monitor all disability management claims to minimize expense, actively manage cases for expedient return to work.
• Report status of action plans and KPI’s to management team and corporate head office.
• Provides meaningful statistics and recommendations to Management in a timely manner to ensure continued improvement of workplace Health, Safety, Environment and Loss Control.
• Develop presentations and reference material as required for training and plant meetings.
• Coordinate the activities of the JHSC.
• Review all accident / incident investigations and monthly inspection reports and provides leadership in developing corrective action.
• Administer first aid when necessary and complete required reports.
• Perform regular workplace inspections.
• Liaise with Engineering and Maintenance departments to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance on all new and existing equipment.
• Conduct Health & Safety / Environmental training needs analysis. Plan and coordinate internal and external safety training for all associates; conduct new associate safety orientation.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal, within the Human Resources department.
• Promote safety in the workplace. Instruct workers in safety, including the use of personal protective equipment, proper housekeeping, how to recognize unsafe work conditions.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of CI suggestions related to Health & Safety or Environmental initiatives.
• Other duties as may be required.

• Occupational Health and Safety Degree / Diploma.
• Minimum 5 years related experience in an automated manufacturing environment OR a related Post-Secondary Diploma / Degree with equivalent experience (as described).
• Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Environmental legislation


• Proven ability to effectively coach and mentor teams in such a way as to promote and maintain a high level of trust and integrity
• Strong communicator both verbally and written
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
• Sound computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Required First Aid Certification and JHSC Level II
