Description: Our client, A North American Automotive part manufacturer current requires a Director of Engineer.


Summary:

As a key member of the Corporate Engineering Management Team, the Director of Engineering is responsible for managing advanced R&D projects to completion by meeting objectives for researching, developing and improving both existing and new products. The advanced engineering department plans, conducts and directs development work on complex projects based on close collaboration with product development management and business development teams.


Contacts Internal Purpose: Interaction with program management, finance, sales, manufacturing, engineering team, operation personnel and customers ensuring successful development of new products and processes.

Experience:

10 plus years of related experience in engineering and supervision of engineers for tooling, stamping and automated welding systems. Additional education may be substituted for experience and vice versa.
Working Knowledge: Assignments require considerable knowledge of management practice and policy interpretation or a combination of education and experience that develops technical capability to independently evaluate, select and apply techniques and standards.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

• Applies product development and validation requirements to commercialize new technologies following the technology and Innovation Roadmap process
• Develop proposals for all feasible ideas
• Brings new technologies to completion and potentially production ready status through the development process
• Timely recommendation to proceed or stop based on intended goals and spending
• Judged on how well the program is managed, not if the original idea was valid
• Technical project management- timing, budgets, status updates and technical reviews
• Develop business case and presentations
• Works collaboratively with subject matter experts on regional or global cross-functional project teams or technology committees
• Drives and captures intellectual property developments
• Identifies and helps manage external technology and innovation partnerships/relationships
• Provide a leadership role in engineering to support company initiatives, policies and strategies

Talent Management and Supervisory Responsibilities

• Direct supervisory responsibilities for advanced engineering team members
• Leads, develops and shapes a market and customer centric workplace culture for innovative solutions, execution excellence and continuous improvement
• Holds the technical project teams/team members accountable for implementing and achieving technology, product development and service related goals and objectives
• Identifies and prioritizes skills, expertise and processes needed to build organizational capabilities
• Collaborates with human resources in talent management activities to attract, develop and retain employees (including full time and interns/co-ops)

Formal Education and/or Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field with additional product related knowledge of tooling, stamping and welded assemblies.

• Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
• DOE experience preferred

Computer Skills

Ability to use Word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to visualize, read and interpret 3D CAD data. Ability to read and interpret 2D automotive drawings. Understanding of GD&T, CAD and CAE principles.
