OUR CLIENT

Is a data, analytics and systems integration consulting firm, headquartered in Toronto.  Started in 2005 by two partners it has gone on to become a leading boutique consulting firm in the BI, Data and Analytics space and are presently moving into AI and data science.

 

ROLE SUMMARY

The Practice Manager is well versed in growing people in a data and technology environment and will play an instrumental role in developing and driving the strategy of our consulting firm.

 

You bring a passion for data and analytics and will play an integral part in supporting the company in delivering innovative solutions and creating experiences for our customers. Leveraging your experience in leading and building teams on complex data projects, you understand the technology but do not need to be a subject matter expert – you just need to be able to understand it.

 

You are a “champion of the people” and inspire your team by nurturing and empowering them to grow and evolve.  You will be responsible for contributing to an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes on quality, continuous improvement, employee retention and development, and high performance.

 

This Manager will have up to 15 reports who focus on data integration, data engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence and data science.

 

 

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Practice development

     o Define and execute practice strategy and plans

     o R&D and Implementation of technology and process for the practice and clients

     o Collaborate with other practices and leadership on IP, process, delivery and people development

• Leadership of the Practice

     o Attract and nurture your people to be top talent

     o Build retention strategies, evaluate and improve overall employee satisfaction

     o Exemplify our culture and values

     o Recruit, interview and onboard new team members

     o Oversee team learning, performance and development programs

     o Maximize team performance and practice efficiency

• Project delivery

     o Collaborate with other practice managers and delivery teams to plan and resource engagements

     o Ensure your team has the support needed to deliver projects leveraging your experience, best practices, support and tools as required

     o Support technical and team de-escalations (not assigned to projects, but involved as part of practice leadership)

• Sales and marketing support

     o Participate in client pursuits, bringing practice IP and approaches and ensuring alignment to your practices part of a proposal or pursuit.

     o Participate in networking and marketing material development

 

REQUIREMENTS

Must have

• Demonstrated leadership, coaching and team development skills

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

• Ability to learn new technologies, their applicability and how they can be rolled out.

• Working Knowledge of:

     o Functions, operation and mission of Developers, Solution Architects, and Data Modelers in Data and Big Data

     o Architecture frameworks, methodologies and tools - current Big Data and Data Warehouse Architectures and which tools apply to each part of the architectures

     o Data lineage and lifecycle: database, data integration and analytics tools,

• Comprehensive understanding of cloud solutions

• Specialized training and/or vendor certification in one or more of the data or analytics stacks

 

Nice to have

• Technology certifications and strong working knowledge specific to data (AWS, Azure, and GCP)

• Understanding of data modelling and governance concepts

• Delivery model and execution methods for DevOps and Agile

• Experience in a consulting environment

• Experience supporting sales and marketing

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Software or Computer Science/Engineering fields or related industry experience or acumen

• 5 plus years’ experience managing knowledge workers

• 7 years leading and building teams in complex data projects
